<Syrian Refugee> 21, November, 2015 — What is happening in Calais?
What happened in Beirut a few days before Terror attack in Paris?
I wonder why tragedy is taken differently, why some are taken serious enough to gain world’s attention, remembrance and others are not as well exposed as ‘a more important tragedy’. Inequality starts from the media, the public has no choice on news that they get to hear and see on TV or radio. What’s more important is already decided and we are told what they say.
Accepting the new as it is – same as surrendering to the big stream. So we have to make an effort to find out the truth, real reality rather than waiting for spoon feeding by media.
There are still people on Boat – smuggling into Europe. While we are celebrating Christmas, New year’s day and so on.
I was planing to put some pantings for a show, but I decided to make different work, once The terror in Paris happened. It was part of plans, having a certain reaction from audiences toward a piece, but I couldn’t expect the same right after the terror. Plus, I wanted to deal with more current issue when I had a chance.
I built a site looking like a study desk in an ordinary house, with various news paper collected for a few days since the terror attack in Paris(all of them put Terror attack in Paris on a cover page). In a comparison, I presented, almost hid various little tiny pictures of terror attack in Beirut and devastating seen of Syrian refugees in Calais(taken in 21st, Nov), and people on boat who risk their life to cross borders to Europe.
Audiences are meant to pay attention on those little pictures using some tools, such as touch and magnifying glass- given alongside pictures under the desk.
